Indian Captain Rohit Sharma Breaks Down in MI Dressing Room

Questions concerning Rohit Sharma’s performance in Twenty20 cricket remained even after Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets on Monday at Wankhede Stadium. Fans are concerned as India gets ready to play in the T20 World Cup in less than a month because Rohit has not improved since smashing that century against Chennai Super Kings. Rohit, the former captain of MI, looked miserable in the dressing room after being dismissed for just four runs, suggesting that the forgettable run also destroyed him.

In T20 cricket, Rohit’s declining batting performance led to his removal as captain. Nevertheless, in his first seven innings this season, he scored 297 runs, including an undefeated 105 against CSK and 49 against Delhi Capitals, both at home. But he scored just 34 runs in his next five games, four of them were in single digits.

During Mumbai’s match against Sunrisers, Pat Cummins, the opposition captain, gave Rohit a length delivery to end his innings. He rushed the shot and ended up getting a leading edge, which sent the ball skywards instead of playing it off his hips and flicking it over square. The wicketkeeper, Heinrich Klaasen, easily grabbed it to complete the dismissal.

Rohit walked back to the pavilion with his head down, frustrated at being sent off for yet another low score. Afterwards, in the MI dressing room, the cameras captured him looking almost tearful.

Heading into the game against Sunrisers, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra reckoned that Rohit lost his rhythm after making a strong start to the season, which has left him quite concerned with the T20 World Cup just round the corner.

“In the last four games—Rishit Sharma, Delhi, Lucknow, and this one against KKR—I believe his highest score is probably 11. That is why I am concentrating on him first. Things don’t go well with this. After scoring 300–325 runs and hitting a century at this ground, he had a strong start to the tournament but has since simply faded from view. On his YouTube channel, Chopra stated, “You don’t want that.”

Before the Indian players depart for the USA, where they will play their opening match against Ireland on June 5, Rohit will still have two more opportunities in the IPL 2024 to regain his form.
