New DelhI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will start searching for a new head coach for the national team. As current head coach, Rahul Dravid’s contract expires in June 2024, coinciding with the T20 World Cup.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the cricketing body will soon issue advertisements regarding the hiring for the post.
While Dravid is welcome to reapply, the BCCI is open to both Indian and foreign candidates. The decision will be made by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), said Shah.
This shift comes despite Dravid receiving a contract extension in November 2023. However, that extension was only valid until June of this year. Jay Shah confirmed there will be no automatic renewal for Dravid this time.
The search for a new coach also quashes discussions of having separate coaches for different cricket formats, a strategy employed by some international teams.
“We have many all-format players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant,” said Shah, highlighting the established versatility within the Indian team.
