Kolkata: In Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, a local BJP figure named Gangadhar Kayal has brought forth a petition to a single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court. He asserts that a fabricated sting operation video is circulating, depicting him making statements implicating the BJP in orchestrating protests by women against alleged sexual misconduct by local Trinamool Congress leaders.

The petition has been accepted by Justice Jay Sengupta, and a hearing is scheduled for May 14, following the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections.

Kayal, who serves as the Mandal president of the BJP in Sandeshkhali, initially reported the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging that the video had been manipulated using Artificial Intelligence to alter his voice. Notably, the CBI is already investigating allegations of sexual harassment, illegal land acquisition, and extortion involving certain Trinamool Congress members in Sandeshkhali.

This development arises amidst claims from the Trinamool Congress that the BJP is engineering the Sandeshkhali incident to tarnish the image of both the ruling party and the state government. Some Trinamool Congress members suggest that the decision to swiftly suspend Sheikh Shahjahan, the main accused in the Sandeshkhali case, was made hastily.

With the case now under the jurisdiction of the Calcutta High Court, observers anticipate that the authenticity of the video will be clarified in due course.
