Mysore : Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, the last scion of the Mysore royal family was a colourful and multi-faceted personality. He even had a hobby of purchasing luxury cars and always wanted all his vehicles to bear the registration number 1953.
1953 was the number which he loved immensely. There was a reason behind it. He was born in this year and his love for the year made him get the same registration number for the over 30 luxurious cars he owned including BMW-5, BMW-7, Scorpio, Innova, Swift, Land Rover, Accent etc.
He also had over 30 mobile numbers and all the numbers ended with the digits 1953.
Despite being a member of the royal clan, he was a businessman and was running the Imperial Hotel in Mysore. Even today this hotel is famous as the hotel of the royal clan.
He had even opened a luxurious bar and restaurant in the Gun House building at Mysore. The restaurant which was running profitably for several years had to shut down a few years ago.
Wadiyar also had a plan to convert the palace on Chamundi Hills into a hotel and had even embarked upon the task of developing it as Rajendra Vilasa Imperial Hotel. The works were in full swing and were supposed to be completed in the next six months. But as fate would have it, Wadiyar passed away before he could realise his dream. The renovation works are expected to take a backseat following his demise.
