Mangalore: The Konkani weekly, Raknno which is immensely popular for its articles that enlighten, educate and create awareness among the people, has announced `Raknno Platinum Sahitya Puraskar’ on its 75th Anniversary. The Award will be presented to eminent writer Fr Mark Valder and carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a shawl, a citation and a memento.
The announcement was made during a press meet held at Press Club on Wednesday December 12.
Fr Mark Valder, former editor of Raknno was chosen by the panel of 6 juries for the first Raknno Platinum Sahitya Puraskar for his meritorious service to the field of Konkani journalism and literature. He will be presented the award in a function to be held on Sunday December 15.
Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore will preside over the valedictory function of the Raknni Platinum jubilee celebrations.
Dr Na D’Souza, renowned Kannada writer and president of 80th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will be the Chief Guest. J.R.Lobo,MLA; Basti Vaman Shenoy, President of Vishwa Konkani Kendra and Shakumtala R Kini, Senior Announcer, All India Radio, Mangalore will be the guests of honour. Renowned playwright Nellu Permannur and his troupe will entertain with his new comedy play ‘Upranth-ch Kollchem!’
Cyril G. Sequeira, Convener, Raknno Platinum Jubilee Finale Celebration Committee, Fr.Francis Rodrigues, Editor of Raknno, Fr. John Vas, Treasurer, Mangalore Diocese, Titus Noronha, CEO, Rahul Advertisers, Media Managers were present during the meet.
