Mysore : The ashes of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, the last scion of the Mysore royal family who passed away recently, were immersed in the Paschima Vahini of Cauvery at Srirangapatna on December 12, Thursday.
Kantharaje Urs, the nephew of Wadiyar who arrived with the ashes along with Palace Chief Priest Rajashekhar Shastri at around 2.20 pm on Thursday, immersed the ashes in the river. Earlier, the ashes were removed through Anujne, Brahmadanda, Asthi Sanchayana, Panchagavya Prayaschitta, and Apradakshine. Later, the picture of a spirit was drawn on a sand which was poured on a plain land. Three small stones depicting Rudra and were placed and worshipped. Even the royal Peta, Shalya, Rumal, and other clothes were kept along with Wadiyar’s favourite Holige, Chiroti, Badam milk, Jamoon, Jilebi, Peda, Idli, Vada, sugar candy, almonds, grapes, apple, sweet lime, plaintain and cardamom.
The Apara Karma rituals have commenced in the palace on Thursday. There will be Dharmodaka on the tenth day, Mailige removal on 11th day and Sampindeekarana on 12th day ( a ritualwherein the soul is united with the souls of other ancestors of the family). Vaikunta Samaradhana will be held on the 13th day.
