Mysore : Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, the last scion of the Mysore royal clan was cremated with full State Honours as per the royal tradition at Madhuvana here on December 11, Wednesday afternoon.
The mortal remains of the departed Wadiyar were earlier placed at the Mysore Palace for the public to pay their respects. Wadiyar’s grieving wife Pramoda Devi and several other dignitaries paid their tributes.
Later, the mortal remains were taken in a palanquin to Madhuvana on the Mysore-Nanjanagud Main Road where the last rites were performed under the guidance of the priests of the royal clan.
A police contingent reversed their arms and fired in the air as a mark of respect to the departed leader whose body was covered with the national tri-colour.
Former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister KJ George, former CMs BS Yeddyurappa, HD Kumaraswamy, former minister Shobha Karandlaje, State Minister Ambarish, MP Vishwanath, DK Shivakumar and other leaders paid their last respects. Thousands had gathered to witness the last rites of Wadiyar.
