Officials from the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (FDA) took action by collecting samples from a McDonald’s outlet in Noida Sector 18 and Theobroma bakery in Sector 104, prompted by a consumer’s complaint of falling ill after consuming food from these establishments, as reported on Monday.
The complaints were registered through the Food Safety Connect portal of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), according to the officials.
A customer reported feeling unwell after consuming a burger and french fries from the McDonald’s outlet in Noida Sector 18, officials stated.
In response, a team from the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA), Gautam Buddh Nagar, promptly visited the McDonald’s location to collect samples.
Archana Dheeran, Assistant Commissioner (Food) FDA, Gautam Buddh Nagar, remarked, “We received a complaint via the portal regarding McDonald’s. The patron fell ill after consuming aloo tikki and french fries. Immediate action was taken, and samples of palm oil, cheese, and mayonnaise were collected…”
In another instance, a woman fell ill after consuming a stale cake purchased from Theobroma bakery in Noida Sector 104. Subsequently, an FDA team collected samples of the cake following the complaint.
“There was another complaint against Theobroma bakery, where an individual fell ill (in Noida) after consuming stale cake from the bakery… A sample of the pineapple cake was obtained and sent to the laboratory… If the analysis indicates a failure, a case will be filed,” stated Dheeran.
She further mentioned that the laboratory report is anticipated within a month, and depending on the outcome, appropriate actions, including potential legal proceedings, will be pursued.
