Iran on Thursday announced sanctions against several American and British individuals and organizations for supporting Israel in its fight against the Palestinian organization Hamas.
The Islamic republic, Israel’s most formidable regional foe, disclosed the punitive measures through a statement issued by its foreign ministry.

The report lists seven Americans as targets of the sanctions, including General Bryan P. Fenton, the head of US special operations command, and Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, a former commander of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet.

British officials and entities targeted include Secretary of State for Defence Grant Shapps, commander of the British army strategic command James Hockenhull and the UK Royal Navy in the Red Sea.

Penalties were also announced against US firms Lockheed Martin and Chevron and British counterparts Elbit Systems, Parker Meggitt and Rafael UK.

The ministry said the sanctions include “blocking of accounts and transactions in the Iranian financial and banking systems, blocking of assets within the jurisdiction of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as prohibition of visa issuance and entry to the Iranian territory”.

The impact of these actions on individuals or groups, their possessions, and their dealings with Iran remain uncertain.

Following the October 7 attack on Israel by Palestinian Hamas operatives that claimed 1,170 lives, the majority of them civilians, an AFP count based on official Israeli figures indicated that war was imminent in the Gaza Strip.

Iran does back Hamas, despite the fact that it has denied any direct involvement in the attack.

At least 34,568 people have died in Gaza since Israel began its retaliatory offensive against Hamas, according to the health ministry of the territory controlled by Hamas. The bulk of these deaths were women and children.
