New York: A passenger train derailed in New York City on Sunday December 1, turning bogies on their sides and throwing passengers into the air, while four are reportedly killed many others casualties are brought to notice.
Firefighters and emergency rescuers swarmed the scene near Spuyten Duyvil station in the Bronx, where at least two bogies were turned on their sides, injuring 67 people out of which 11 of them are still critical. Injured were taken to several hospitals in New York.
New York Fire Department Chief Edward Kilduff confirmed that three of the dead were thrown out as the train came off the track and was twisting near the turning.
He moreover said that the train travelling from the Hudson Valley town of Poughkeepsie, 100 miles north of New York, to the city’s Grand Central Station, derailed just as it was coming around a sharp curve shortly after 7 an.
It is also learnt that out of eight train cars, seven were off the tracks while few of the bogies were completely twisted. Police divers were in the water hours after the crash looking for survivors, and cadaver dogs searched the wreckage. It was unclear how fast the train was travelling and how many passengers were on board.
