Dope test row: Teen confesses of spiking Narsingh’s food supplements

New Delhi: A teen reportedly a junior wrestler has confessed that he had spiked Narsingh’s food supplements while he was away training in Georgia. Few days ago, Narsingh Yadav, 74kg wrestler, failed a dope test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on July 5. He was India’s contender at Rio Olympics.

The person who has confessed of allegedly spiking the food supplements is himself a 65 kg wrestler and has represented India in the junior ranks. He trains at the Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi and frequents the SAI Sonepat Centre during the national camps as a sparring partner.

Narsingh, a bronze medallist at the 2015 World Championship, was a top contender in the 74kg freestyle class. Singh cried foul after he tested positive for banned anabolic steroid – methandienone and failed the dope test. He accused that his food supplements were spiked at the SAI canetre in Sonepat, where he was training.

He has given a written complaint to Wrestling Federation of India and named a senior wrestler and an official behind him failing the dope test. Narsingh’s roommate Sandeep Tulsi Yadav, a Greco-Roman wrestler, also tested positive for the same substance. Narsingh Yadav has also demanded a CBI probe into the doping scandal. Also, WFI president met Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the issue.

Narsingh will not be able to compete in Rio and Parveen Rana has been named as his replacement.
