Va Tech Wabag has clinched a recurring contract valued at approximately USD 49 million from Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani (KUKL), with backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The project encompasses the Design, Build, Operate (DBO) model for three Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP) situated in Nepal at Sallaghari, Kodku, and Dhobighat. These facilities are set to process about 69 MLD of Waste Water, with a projected completion timeline of twenty-four (24) months, followed by a five (5) year phase dedicated to operation and maintenance (O&M).
Upon their completion, these plants will play a pivotal role in reducing the flow of untreated Waste Water into the Bagmati, Manohara, and Hanumante rivers, thereby contributing to the restoration of water quality and the enhancement of the overall ecosystem. As an integral component of the initiative, Green Fuel (Biogas) will be generated through Activated Sludge Treatment, providing a sustainable source of energy to power the WWTP operations. This approach not only aids in reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions but also optimizes operational costs.
