The senior doctor was severely beaten and struck in the head with a blunt object before being strangled with a leash, according to the Delhi Police’s investigation into his death in the Jangpura neighborhood of southeast Delhi, officials said on Saturday.

On Friday, Yogesh Chandra Paul, a 63-year-old doctor, was discovered dead in his Jangpura Extension house. They say Paul’s hands were tied when his body was discovered.

Four individuals were visible in video that the police saw from a CCTV camera not far from Paul’s residence. One suspect remained outside the residence as the other three went inside, according to a police officer who was knowledgeable of the investigation.

Paul was gagged, beaten, and restrained to a chair by the accused. According to the officer, they dragged the chair with Paul tied to it into the kitchen, where they used a dog leash to strangle Paul and struck him in the head with a blunt object.

Paul’s two dogs were locked in the bathroom by the accused. After that, they looted the house and left.

The police have opened a murder and robbery case and are looking into it from several directions.

“We have not ruled out the possibility of some insider or someone known to Paul being involved,” stated the officer.

Paul shared a home with his spouse Neena Paul, a physician at a government hospital in Delhi. When her husband was killed, she was at work. While one of their daughters resides in Noida, the other one is in Canada. They are both wed.

Neena Paul’s return home revealed the situation, according to the police.

Paul’s popularity among his neighbors stemmed from the fact that he operated a clinic out of his home. He used to provide free medical care and even free medication to the underprivileged.

According to Rajesh Deo, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), they have solid leads and the investigation is in a critical phase. Various sites are being raided in an attempt to apprehend the suspects.

Paul’s neighbors organized a candle march across the neighborhood on Saturday. Some locals said that the murder was caused by inadequate police presence.
