Following the Delhi High Court’s orders to stop fake oxytocin from being used in dairy colonies around the capital, the city police and the Drug Control Department jointly raided an illegal manufacturing facility and took the owner into custody on Sunday, according to an official.
Praveen Kumar was named as the accused, who had been producing veterinary oxytocin injections illegally and without the necessary license for the previous six months.

“The premises were found stocked with various materials used in the manufacturing process, including empty plastic bottles, crimp caps, sealing machines, and raw materials for oxytocin preparation,” said the official.

The veterinary injection of oxytocin is a restricted medication meant for use in obstetrics in horses, sheep, and cows. Nonetheless, it is frequently abused in dairy farms to boost milk yield from milch animals.

The Drug Control Department of the Delhi government claims that on Saturday, it received information about illicit oxytocin manufacturing activities from the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Bhalswa Dairy police station.

“A joint team of Drug Control Department and the Delhi Police conducted a raid at the premises in Swaroop Nagar area and uncovered a clandestine operation of manufacturing of oxytocin veterinary injection by the accused Praveen Kumar,” said an officer from the Drug Control Department.

Additionally, the accused did not present any current medication licenses or purchase documentation for the manufacturing supplies.

“This preparation was previously made by him (the accused) from a concentrated solution, which he then physically filled into plastic bottles after diluting. Before, a crimping machine was utilized to hand seal these plastic bottles. It was also discovered that several dairy farms were receiving illicit oxytocin without the required paperwork. He revealed that he used to obtain this oxytocin-concentrated solution from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh,” the official continued.

As required by the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940, samples of the illegally produced oxytocin were gathered during the operation for additional testing and analysis.

“Additionally, a significant amount of oxytocin preparation, along with manufacturing equipment and materials, were seized by the authorities,” stated the official.
