A significant uproar has emerged in Karnataka following allegations of a scandal involving former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s grandson and Hassan MP, Prajwal Revanna. Reports suggest that explicit video clips purportedly involving Prajwal Revanna have surfaced in recent days, prompting the Karnataka government to establish a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the matter. This decision came after Dr. Nagalakshmi, Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, submitted a letter regarding the issue.
An FIR has been filed alleging sexual harassment against Prajwal Revanna and his father, H.D. Revanna, who is an MLA representing Holenarasipur. The complaint was lodged by a woman who had been employed at Revanna’s residence. She stated that she decided to step forward after witnessing videos of other victims sharing their experiences.
According to the complainant, Prajwal Revanna began summoning her to his quarters during the fourth month of her employment, causing apprehension among the female staff whenever he returned home. She further alleged that both H.D. Revanna and Prajwal Revanna sexually assaulted female workers in their homes. The complainant also claimed that Prajwal Revanna behaved inappropriately with her daughter during a video call.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including those pertaining to sexual harassment, stalking, criminal intimidation, and outraging the modesty of a woman.
Prajwal Revanna is reported to have left the country for Germany. Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that if Prajwal is indeed out of the country, the SIT will be tasked with bringing him back and continuing the investigation. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed deep shame over the situation, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable, especially given Prajwal’s status as an MP and the grandson of a former Prime Minister. Prajwal Revanna was nominated by the JD(S), a member of the BJP-led NDA, to contest in the recent elections in Hassan.
