Torrential Rains in Yalandoor; 69 Houses Collapsed

Yalandoor: Thousands of acres of paddy cultivation was destroyed and 69 houses collapsed owing to the bank of Yeriyoor lake that lies on 700 acres collapsed, caused  by torrential rains across thetaluk including the city.

The flood waters from the unruly lake destroyed the paddy crop causing distress to local farmers.  The traffic is disrupted as the flood waters inundated Yalandoor – Kestoor Road.  The peasants had to cover a round-about route to reach the city without a choice.

Sixty-nine houses have collapsed in Basavapura village, near here, while the villagers and their livestock are taking shelter in Governmetn Higher Primary School and Community Building at Uppara.

MP R Druvanarayan, MLA Jayanna, DC Kunjappa, zilla panchayat CEO Anjanappa and other people’s representatives visited spot.

MP Druvanarayan instructed the engineers of Cauvery Irrigation Board to restore the bank of Yeriyoor lake and also offered assurances of opening gruel centers with provision of grains and pulses, besides to rehabilitate the families whose homes were perished and also to ward compensation under natural calamities Fund in consultation with state authorities.  

The district-in-charge minister H S Mahadevaprasad arrived at Basavapura village on Friday morning and distributed cheque of Rs 37,000 each to those whose houses perished as temporary compensation and also offered assurances to rehabilitate them at the earliest.

Tahsildar Shivaramu, TP president Gangamani, ZP member Kinakahalli Siddaraju, former member Yariyoor Yogesh, BSP leader Mahesh, former town councilor Mudigunda Shantaraju, gram panchayat president Kappanna, secretary Sasikala, local leader Mamballa Nanjundaswamy and others were present on the occasion.
