Mangalore:The reports that the dreaded ultra and Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal and his associates  had  stayed in a flat at Attavar in Mangalore for as long as six months, has certainly created some sort of panic in the city. But the local police are not ready to divulge anything. It is also not yet clear if the ultras had given a false address while taking the flat on rent.

Even the owner of the apartment says he knows nothing.  He instead asks scribes to contact the officials. He refuses to disclose the name of  the person for whom the flat was rented, but affirms that the name was neither Yasin nor Asadullah.

He also points out that there was no room for any suspicion as the tenants were regular in paying the rent.

The apartment owner also said that they came to know the facts only when the NIA called them. We agreed when they said they wanted to inspect the flat, he adds.

The Zephyr Apartments at Attavar is legal say authorities. It has commercial spaces on the ground floor and has 11 apartments in three floors. The commercial spaces are occupied by IOB Branch, Western Union Money Transfer, a beauty parlour and a readymade garment shop,

The building however does not have a watchman, nor CCTV camera or elevator.

Though rules state that any outside wanting to rent a house will have to produce a letter from the police station during agreement, no such rule is followed in Mangalore. In case a person wants a house for less than a year, then only two witnesses are sufficient and no legal documents required.

Sources meanwhile, say the apartment in which the ultras stayed might have been rented out in the name of some local person.
