Thousands pay last respects to former minister Nanjappa

Mysore:  Thousands of people paid their last respects to former minister S Nanjappa who breathed his last at a private hospital here on January 26, Sunday night. He was 79. Nanjappa who was ailing since some time was admitted to the hospital 15 days ago.The last rites were held at Kanuganahalli on January 27,Monday.

Several leaders including MLA GT Deve Gowda, MP  H Vishwanath, Mysore University Vice Chancellor Rangappa and others paid their last respects to the departed leader.

Nanjappa was admitted to a private hospital about 15 days ago. The departed leader who was close to the family of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, had served as Minister for Food and Civil Supplies in the then Deve Gowda cabinet. He  was elected MLA from KR Nagara constituency for three terms and had also served as Hassan District in-charge minister.

Nanjappa   had practised law for over 35 years and was a famous advocate. He had contested elections for the first time in 1978 from a Janatha Party ticket but had to taste defeat at the hands of H  Vishwanath. In 1983, he had once again contested from the Janatha Party and had won.  In 1989 when the Janatha Party suffered a split, he had identified himself with the Deve Gowda faction.
