VHP demands action against cops for detaining,assaulting innocent Hindu activists

Mangalore: VHP leader Jagadish Shenava has demanded stern action against the police personnel who  have arrested and assaulted innocent VHP and Bhajrangdal activists in connection with the assault on a youth named Muneer at KC Road near Ullal recently.

Speaking to reporters in the city on January 27, Monday, he said the police who had summoned several Hindu youth to the station on the pretext of enquiry, had detained them unauthorisedly for a  couple of days. Shenava alleged that even Pradeep Pumpwell, the District Goraksha Convenor  was taken from his residence on January 24 at 2 am and then released the next evening at 5 pm after VHP  leaders planned a protest in front of the ACP office. Consequent upon this, another activist named Manoj Kumar was detained by the police under the leadership of ACP, he said and alleged that Manoj was later brutally assaulted in his hand, legs and private parts  by the police under the influence of alcohol. He was also given shock treatment, Shenava alleged.

He demanded action against the erring police men failing which the Bhajrangdal and VHP will stage a huge protest in front of the DC office on February 3.

VHP Secretary Gopal Kuttar, Bhajrangdal District Convenor Bhujanga Kulal and  District Dharma Prasarana Pramukh  Jithendra Kottari were also present at the press meet.
