Mysuru: State government, with an intention to improve quality of higher education across the state including state universities and government colleges and to enhance Gross Enrollment Ratio from present 27 present to 40 percent will be seeking Rs 3500 crore from World Bank.

According to reliable sources, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddi had held a meeting with the vice-chancellors of Universities and other officials concerned in Bengaluru recently and during the meeting the gathering deliberated on working on these lines, taking cue from Madhya Pradesh who have got nearly Rs 15,000 crores from World Bank.There are 412 government colleges and 24 public universities across the state.
If the government gets loan from the World Bank, each university will be getting at an average of Rs 150 crore for its various developmental works, which will benefit students at large. The government is also vying at enhancing the enrollment at government colleges.
