Mysore:  The District School Vehicle Drivers and Owners Association  staged a protest in front of the residence of  District in-charge Minister Srinivas Prasad on Thursday June 5  opposing  certain rules that restricted drivers from operating school vehicles in the city.

The protestors said  the City Police  Commissioner has  made it a point that only vehicles painted yellow can operate as school vehicles  and opined that  this rule has hit hard many drivers who have been ferrying children to schools in their vehicles and have made it their profession. He said  painting their vehicles yellow would greatly inconvenience them and would be a burden as they will have to pay an insurance amount of Rs 10,000 per year,  and pay taxes once in three months.

They also resented the rule that states that only ten children can be ferried in a vehicle. The protestors even questioned why such rules are implemented in Mysore when there are no such rules in other parties of the state.

The Association also submitted a memorandum to the minister  requesting him to ensure justice to the  drivers. Several  members of the Association as well as drivers of school vehicles participated in the protest.
