Mysuru: The Audit Committee of Karnataka Legislature failed to find valid documents related to Rs 120 Crore funds released by the state government to University of Mysore (UoM)?since 1989. It has instructed the authorities to submit the documents within 3 months with specific objections, failing which they will face legal action.
The Audit Committee of Karnataka Legislature headed by K R Nagar MLA S R Mahesh went for a spin as it failed to extract any valid documents to match expenditure with funds released by the state government since 1989.
During a meeting here on April 12, Audit Committee of Karnataka Legislature members charged the UoM authorities with failure to produce documents for Rs 120 Crore spent on various works from 1989.
The committee in its findings noticed that the authorities had failed to initiate legal action against those involved in the irregularities. As per the documents, the authorities paid the contractors well before the stipulated time while some other contractors received excess payment, committee member Mahesh stated.
According to the committee members, the authorities have misused Rs 15 Crore funds allotted for various works from 1989. The committee members warned the authorities of legal action if they failed to furnish the documents within three months.

The committee members also pointed out that the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) authorities had not recovered the money spent for purchasing stationery, in violation of norms.
According to members, Rs 8 Crore was misused and the authorities have recovered only Rs 4 Crore so far. The recovered amount was utilised to pay scholarships to 4000 scheduled caste and tribe students of the UoM last year. “Though the cost of a marks card is Rs 2.50, the authorities have paid Rs 36 per card. The authorities have also procured 18 lakh mark sheets whereas the requirement was for only one lakh. The committee has asked the authorities to recover balance Rs 4 Crore within 3 months.
