Mysore : Can a mother be cruel enough to kill her own infant by dumping it into a canal? Well, Sumayya Banu, wife of Fairoz, an autorickshaw driver of Mysore, has  been cruel enough to do so, driven by poverty as well fear of disgrace.

The case of the alleged kidnap of a baby and the subsequent tracing of the babys body in the Virija canal the next day, took a new twist, when police realized that there was no kidnapping and it was only a cock and bull story by the childs mother Sumayya Banu.

They have now arrested Sumayya Banu as well as her brother Imran  for abetting the crime. In fact it was her elder brother Imran who had lodged a complaint with the police that  her child had been kidnapped  by some people who even pushed her out of their car on Mysore-Bangalore road.

During interrogations with the police, Sumayya has revealed that  poverty and the fear of disgrace had driven her to the extreme step. She said her family was too poor that it could not afford treatment of the child which faced health problems since birth and was diagnosed with pneumonia. Moreover, she said even her husband was  caught in various theft cases and had to visit police stations frequently. She also revealed that she had discharged the child from Mission hospital a couple of days ago against doctors advice.
