Mysore: Several candidates appearing for PhD entrance examinations in the University of Mysore (UoM) at Maharani College staged a protest on December 16, Sunday by boycotting the examination in protest against the  authorities who  failed to provide them Kannada version of the question papers.

Over 3000 candidates appeared for the exams in 73 subject.  Candidates who were supposed to appear for exams in ten humanities subjects boycotted the exam. Candidates seeking entrance to PhD in Economics, Mass Communication and Journalism, Cooperative Studies, Anthropology, South Indian Studies, Gandhian Studies, Dance, Geography, Jainology and Prakrit, and Speech and Hearing demanded question papers in Kannada.

Although the University of Mysore authorities maintained that PhD entrance examinations can be held only in English as per the University Grants

Commission (UGC) regulations, the University later agreed to postpone the exams and candidates wishing to write in Kannada can appear for the exams again.
