National Library Week inaugurated

Mysore :  Adagur H Vishwanath,  MP has regretted the fact the  commission lobby was having a detrimental effect on the Kannada Book Authority.

He was speaking  after inaugurating the National Library Week organized at the  Kala Mandir here on the occasion of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Anniversary. The programme was jointly organised by the Public Library Department and District Central Library.

He said that transfer of  sincere officials have become very common in the authority where  middle men were  spoiling the reputation of the Authority through their  commission business.

He said every Gram Panchayat is entitled to  Rs 16 lakh grant to set up Rajeev Gandhi Seva Kendras under the Mahatma Gandhi Employment Guarantee Scheme. But the GPs are not utilising the grants effectively, he said and stressed the need to sensitize the public  on the importance of libraries.

On this occasion MUDA Commissioner S Palaiah handed over a cheque for Rs 10 lakhs as Library cess.

Service awards were presented to staff of various taluk and city central libraries. R Dhruvanarayan, MP, MN Rajeshwari, Mayor, V Shailendra, Deputy Mayor, M Mahadevu, ZP President, CH Vijayashanker,  MLC, Nirmala, Taluk Panchayat President, Abhinav Khare, SP, B Manjunath, Deputy Director of District Central Library  and others were present.

Earlier, the dignitaries offered floral tributes to the portrait of  Dr SR Ranganath, Father of Library.
