Mysore : Lorry owners and drivers staged a protest by parking their vehicles on the Ring Road near Bogadi in protest against the action of the officials of Mines and Geology Department  who have been   intercepting and penalising lorries which are unauthorisedly transporting jelly stones without any relevant documents.

It is learnt, when the officials were on an inspection spree they found that 19 of the lorries did not have relevant documents. However the drivers refused to pay the penalty amount and argued that they were  paying the required fee at the quarry. They also argued that the quarry owners must be penalised. This resulted in a tense situation and the lorry drivers and owners started protesting.

When senior officials arrived, the protestors including B Revanna, President of the Mysore city Local Lorry Owners Association accused the authorities of harassing lorry drivers. He also said no receipt is given at  quarries. He further  alleged that even lorries transporting   mud and debris are stopped and harassed.

Tension prevailed in the area when both sides were unrelenting. Finally,  MLA Vasu, ZP President Koorgalli Mahadeva and others arrived and settled the issue after talks with officials and the lorry owners.
