Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Pratap Simha visited the accident prone spots near Sachidananda Ashrama in Gowrishankar Nagar on the outskirts of the city to inspect the road conditions after public complained of several deaths due to road accidents in the recent past.
Reacting to reporters MP Pratap Simha said, “The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) spends more than Rs 40 Crore on planning of roads alone but the works carried out by contractors are below par.”

He instructed the officials to put up speed breakers in three days and install temporary street lights.
His visit to the spot on January 24 was in response to the public outrage after seven deaths occurred on NH 212 (Mysuru-Najanagud road). MP accused the road contractors of substandard works violating tender guidelines and assured the public of providing service roads in the area after consulting state public works minister.

He also asked the officials accompanying him to issue ultimatum to the contractors and provide permanent street lights in the areas gradually.

NHAI Executive Engineer Krishnamurthy and local leaders accompanied the MP during the inspection of the road.
