Udupi: “The rich tradition and culture of Tulunadu should continue to the future generation also. Tulunadu is a place of rich tradition and culture”, said B S Yeddyurappa, former Chief Minister of Karnataka.
He was delivering the inaugural address during the second conference of “Garadis” (Places of worship) of Tulunadu, organised by Thingala Prathistana held at the Ammani Ramanna Shetty Auditorium, near Mission Hospital here on Tuesday, January 24.

B S Yeddiyurappa said that late Dr. V S Acharya had contributed immensely towards the development of coastal districts. “Udupi is the city of Sri Krishna. It is important to keep our traditions alive. Rather we should not support bad beliefs or superstitions. The worship of Daivas is needed to keep our beliefs alive. The tradition of Kambala race is also a religious one. We will support the holding of Kambala in coastal districts.”

Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Matt graced the occasion. Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, Convener of the conference, delivered the introductory address.

Shobha Karandlaje, MP of Udupi – Chickmagaluru in her address said that a lot of importance and funds were provided for the growth of temples and Matts during Yeddyurappa’s tenure as chief minister. If BJP got back to power it would also include the Garadis in its development agenda, she added.

Sri Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji also supported the Kambala race in coastal districts.

Earlier Gurme Suresh Shetty, President of second conference of Garadis Committee welcomed the gathering. Dr. Mohan Alva presided over the conference. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Suhas Hegde, Nadalike Neere Krishna Shetty, Kelachavadi Prakash Shetty, Kollabettu Ravindra Shetty, Prakash Shetty K, Krishna Y Shetty, Vakwadi Praveen Shetty and K M Shetty among others were present.
