Mysuru: In a surprise drive to evict unauthorized occupants, Apartments built under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) near Mahadevapura railway gate to resettle slum dwellers were raided by an official team led by MLA Somashekar.

During the raid, unoccupied apartments were sealed by government officials with new locks and an official seal.The evacuation raid which revealed that more than 150 houses were not even allotted to the beneficiaries.
In the process, Somashekar pulled up the officials and also alleged that they have handed over multiple houses to a single applicant.
Speaking to the local press, he said that over 50 percent of the occupancy is illegal and “that is why we are conducting the raid”. “The officials have taken bribes of 25 to 50 thousand Rupees to give additional houses”, he added.
During the inspection, the residents were asked to show the concerned documents.
One man multiple appearance!
During the visit, Somashekar was shocked when a person came twice with the house documents, saying that a flat belonged to him. Somashekar, had seen him for the second time claiming to be a flat owner. Identifying him Somakshekar told the officials to lock up one house.
A resident of the apartment complex, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Newskarnataka that multiple houses have been allotted to a single applicant. “Some of the allottees have also given the flats on rent to others and are earning lots and lots of money. But the real beneficiaries are missing out”, he said.
Under the JnNURM scheme 336 houses were constructed for slum dwellers, of which only 170 houses have been occupied.
It is reported that some of the house owners are not living in the apartments but have given it out for rent. However, the original owners, came rushing to show their documents to the raiding team led by the MLA, as soon as they heard of the same.
