Mandya: The senate has announced that, the US President Barack Obama may nominate Dr Vivek Murthy (37), an Indian from Mandya district as the next surgeon general for United States, he will replace acting surgeon BD Lushniak who served for four years.
It is indeed glad and honoring news for the people of the Hallegere village in Mandya from where Dr Vivek Murthy belongs. He is the son of HC Narayan Murthy, former director of Mysore Sugar company and Florida-based Dr Lakshminarasimha Murthy. He is a BA from Harvard University, an MBA from Yale School of Management, and an MD from Yale School of Medicine.
Murthy is a hospitalist at the Brigham and is co-founder and president of Doctors for America, a Washington, DC-based group of 16,000 physicians and medical students that advocates for access to affordable, high quality health care.
Murthy was appointed to the President’s Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health in 2011. The prevention group was created as part of the Affordable Care Act health reform law.
It is learnt that HC Narayan Murthy and Vivek Murthy have been involved in social services in Hallegere as well as in United states. His group doctors for America, was originally called Doctors for Obama and helped to campaign for Obama’s election.
