‘Main goal of Right to Information is transparency’

Mysuru: The public information officers do not have rights to reject the applications in Govt Offices under right to information act said Information Commission Chief Officer A K M Nayak.

Speaking in the workshop at DC office he said that Govt officers should help the public get right information and they should help the illiterates to fill the form and get the information.

Under Right to Information Act applicants will be given 30 days time if the concerned officers failed to give he can be punished. If the officer has the valid reason for being late in giving information he will be given 15 days extra time to give information.

State Right to Information Act has most queries on Revenue, Panchayat and Urban Development Department. The main goal of Right to Information is transparency in administration but the applications regarding private orgainsiation will not be appreciated and one application should carry only one issue he added.
