Somwarpet: A man was trampled to death by a rogue elephant at Sangaiahnapura Junction on Kushalnagar State Highway near here on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased is H N Rajachar (45) from Besoor village of Kodlipet. It is said that Rajachar was riding his bike when the rogue elephant that emerged out of Nidtha Reserve Forest attacked him. Rajachar who fell on the road was later thumped on the ground and trampled by the elephant due to which he died on the spot.
The raged locals staged a stir by blocking Kushalnagar-Shanivarasanthe highway and vented their anger against the forest department. They said that the residents of Nidtha, Malambi, Banawara areas have been living under constant fear of rogue elephant attacks. The traffic came to a halt on the stretch for several hours.
Range Forest Officer Mohisin Basha said that most of the demands of the residents of Banavara, Malambi areas will be met and the family of the deceased will be given Rs 5 lac compensation. A cheque of Rs 2 lakh has been handed over to the family, he said.
The deceased is survived by wife and three daughters.
