Security stepped up in Mysuru ahead of I-Day celebrations

Mysuru: In the wake of bomb blast at a toilet in the district court on August 1, the police have beefed up security across the city especially at the Bannimantap ground where the district administration will be celebrating the 70th Independence Day on Monday, August 15.

City Police Commissioner Dayananda, accompanied by DCPs Dr. H.T. Shekar and N. Rudramuni inspected the arrangements at the Torch-Light Parade ground where the I-Day Parade is slated to take place at 9 am on Monday. Apart from torchlight parade ground, the top police officers also visited other prominent places across the city to decide on security aspect.

The Police Commissioner has urged managements of Schools, Colleges and private educational institutions to install CCTV cameras. Apart from institutions, police have also instructed business personnel which see a lot of footfalls during holidays to make sure that they have CCTV cameras and also that they are working throughout the weekend. As a part of security measure and to keep tab on antisocial elements, police have also instructed hotels and owners of home-stays to make sure that they check the identity of guests and make a photocopy of the same.

Parking at Bannimantap ground

To ensure smooth flow of traffic and proper conduct of cultural programmes organised at the Torch-Light Parade Grounds in Bannimantap as part of I-Day celebrations, the city police have made elaborate security and parking arrangements. VVIPs attending the programme can park their cars on both sides of the venue, while media persons and officials of other departments are requested to park their vehicles at Gate-2. The general public should park their vehicles near Gate-4, while those participating in the cultural programmes can enter the premises through Gate-8 and park their vehicles. Those who attend the celebration will be allowed only after thorough frisking.

52 prisoners to be released on Independence Day

As part of Independence Day celebration, 52 people, including 35 men and 17 women prisoners who are undergoing imprisonment for various crimes at Mysuru central prison will be released on Monday.
