Madikeri: Following an alert from the intelligence wing in the wake of the serial blasts in Sri Lanka, security has been stepped up in the Kodagu district.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had raided several places in Kerala and Tamil Nadu following the blasts, and as Kodagu falls on the Karnataka-Kerala border, it has been put on high alert.

Security has been beefed up at all the tourist spots, public places and religious centres and bomb diffusion squads and dog squads have been deployed at all the strategic points. Police have also been deployed to the Harangi dam.

Vehicles coming in and going out of the district are also being stopped and checked at various check posts.
