
Udupi: A major fire broke out in Benaka Wood Workshop in the early hours this morning, April 30, 2019. The rear portion of the workshop was totally gutted in the fire. The workshop was located in Kallianpur.
The fire that started in the rear portion of the workshop spread very fast. The stocks of furniture was completely gutted and the roof caved in as a result of the fire.
The neighbours had called the fire brigade and then the fire was brought under control. As a result, further damage was averted.
The Benaka Wood workshop owner Umesh Acharya said that the estimated damage was around Rs.5 to Rs 6 lakhs. A large amount of wood and furniture which belonged to customers was destroyed.
The exact cause of the fire is not known. Since the fire occured in the early hours, there was no casualties. The workshop was not insured and there was no firefighting equipment installed in the premises.
