Mysore:The literature has the capability to bring about societal reforms, said Kannada and culture, women and child welfare minister Umashree.
The minister Umashree was speaking after inaugurating a seminor on Vachana Chaluvali work culture at Kuvempu Kannada Study Institute auditorium, Manasagangotri, here.
The great visionary Basavanna had created social awareness on the plight of lower castes in the tenth century. If one digs deeper into Basavanna’s psalms, one would learn what was the state of lower castes in the society of those times, said minister Umashree.
Mysore University vice-chancellor Professor C Basavaraju presided the seminar.
Kuvempu Kannada Study Institute director Professor N M Talawar, renowned movie director Professor Baragoor Ramachandrappa was also present.
