Mysuru: The present system of admitting destitutes and the general people in the same ward has caused several problems. The uncivilised behaviour of some of the destitutes had caused inconvenience to rest of the patients several times and taking note of the same, the KR Hospital administration has decided to have separate ward for destitudes. The eight-bedded ward will be set up in 15 days.
It was only recently that patients staged a stir by sleeping outside the ward after they were irked by the behaviour of some destitute patients. The hospital had faced several other problems due to these patients who are untidy and until too, however, to tackle the same, this move has been taken.
Speaking to Newskarnataka Dr Chandrashekar, Superintendent (in-charge) KR Hospital said “Usually we used to accommodate destitute and normal patients in a same ward but the normal patients have started to complain that the destitutes are posing lot of inconvenience to them. After visiting the ward and coming to know about the problem we have decided to set up exclusive ward for destitutes at Jayadeva Hospital building.”
Nagamma, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital said “Coming out with exclusive ward to destitute is a good initiative on part of hospital authorities. These destitute used to create lot of problems. They used to shout and create chaos. That was not all, they used to come to rest of the patients and take away our food.”
Every week, on an average, more than four destitute patients undergo treatment at KR Hospital and it is said that once they come, they refuse to go.
