Harassment from money lenders drives woman to kill daughter, self

Mysuru: In a tragic incident a woman killed her own daughter by feeding a banana laced with poison minutes before committing suicide in C-halli of Bannur Hobli  .
Pressure from private financiers to recover debts is understood to be the main reason behind the incident.

The deceased are Lakshmi aged 30 and her daughter Sanjana aged 9.

The woman a divorcee, since 6 years, involved in making south Indian flower braids was staying in her home town with her family. She borrowed money from private lenders at unreasonable rates of interest to support her business. When she failed to clear the dues the lenders started mounting pressure to recover the dues. Unable to bear the consequences she decided to end her life and with no options available at this critical juncture she thought of killing her daughter first. To execute her plan she laced a banana with poison and fed it first to the girl.  When the relatives noticed the suffering mother- daughter duo they shifted them to hospital. However daughter died on the way where as the mother died later in the hospital.

The police have registered a case at Bannur police station and are investigating.
