Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took a tour of the city to witness and inspect the developmental works on Tuesday, May 24.
Speaking to the media after ending the city tour, Siddaramaiah said on Tuesday that the infrastructural work pending for the last two years causing inconvenience to the public will be completed before the onset of monsoon. During the visit, he ordered the suspension of a chief engineer of Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) for delay in completing the work at Madivala ward.

Mayor B N Manjunatha Reddy had been repeatedly complaining about the delay in the public infrastructure work, hence the official concerned was held responsible for it and was ordered to be suspended, the chief minister said.

Rs 1.50 crore to avoid water logging

The BBMP was allocated Rs 1.50 crore to take up developmental works at Kino junction to ease the traffic movement, especially during the rainy season where water logging problem has been prevailing for years now. The work has already been commenced. Many motorists struggle a lot to commute on this road due to the water logging at this junction during the monsoon, the chief minister said.

Additional flyover at Silk Board Junction

The chief minister also assured that all sorts of measures would be taken to ensure smooth movement of vehicles at Silk Board Junction by constructing a flyover. The estimated cost of construction of the flyover would be Rs 300 crore. Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) are directed to prepare a master plan for this proposal, he added.

Encroachments at Iblur Lake

The chief minister also said that directions have been given to the officials concerned to clear the encroachments at Iblur Lake and issue notices to the encroachers. Iblur Lake is 18 acres and six guntas but nine acres of Iblur Lake has been encroached. There are 837 lakes spreading to 4,232 acres in and around Bengaluru, but 1232 acres of various lakes have been encroached.

“The government will take measures to clear the encroachments,” Siddaramaiah said.
