Mysuru: This villagers of Harohalli staged a protest by placing a dead body of a man who died due to consumption of illicit liquor, thereby blocking traffic on Mysuru-HD Kote road on Tuesday, May 24.
Incidentally, the village lies in Chamundeshwari assembly constituency which gave Chief Minister Siddaramiah political rebirth. The women of the village urged the police and excise authorities to enforce a total ban on sale of illicit liquor in the area and shut down 14 petty shops engaged in liquor trade. They said around 18 men have died in the locality till date and most men spend all their hard earned money of daily wages amounting to Rs 200.00 by consuming cheap liquor which is supplied by men to all petty shops using Motor cycles without number plates.
To draw the attention of higher authorities they placed a corpse on the busy Mysore- H.D. Kote Road which affected vehicular moment. They shouted slogans asking authorities to stop supply of illicit liquor, instead provide them with adequate drinking water.
Excise inspector visited the spot and assured the villagers of quick action against all people involved in the movement and supply of liquor.
