Grand procession held to herald Basava Jayanthi

Mysuru: The district administration has organised a grand inauguration for Basava Jayanthi festivites on Tuesday 11am at Kalamandir. Community organisations of Lingayaths who usually follow the thoughts of social reformer Basavanna, conducted a cultural procession with a decorated chariot installed with a  depiction of Basavanna on Monday evening in the city.

The procession was inaugurated by the Mayor of Mysuru City Corporation R Lingappa. Deputy Mayor Mahadevamma, Zilla Panchayath President Pushpa Amarnath, L Madappa, Vice President of Zilla Panchayath, Manjula Puttaswamy, Member of ZP, MCC Member B V Manjunath have to take part in the inaugural event. Zilla Panchayath President Pushpa Amarnath walked along with the the large procession.

A grand musical procession with some of traditional folk troupes alerted people to take part in the proposed event that will commence on Tuesday morning. The procession began from Basaveshwara Circle, and moved through the hundred feet road, Thyagaraja road, Madhavarav Circle, 101 Ganapathi Temple Circle, Madhvachar Road, Nanjumalige Circle, Chamundipuram Circle, Kamsale Mahadevaiah Circle, Ramanuja Road to the starting point Basaveshwara Circle.

The folk dance and music troupes  included were Nandidwaja, Veeragase, Dollukunitha, Karadi Kunitha, Dolls dance, Pooja Kunitha made the procession a wonderful experience. However, the procession disrupted the smooth flow of vehicles at the Agrahara Circle, but the traffic police handled the situation in an appreciable manner.
