Mysore: It has been decided to build mega tunnels in Shiradi Ghat section of national highway to enhance better connectivity between the coastal district and other regions of state, said the union surface transport and highways minister Oscar Fernandes.
The minister Oscar was speaking after inaugurating the newly-built bridge across Kapila river on NH 212 at T Narasipura and laying foundation for building a new bridge across Cauvery river.
“The major tunnel works will be taken up with the assistance of Japan in Shiradi Ghat, in order to improve better connectivity with coastal district and rest of Karnataka. The infrastructural development will indeed contribute to the national development. I am in a mission to visit 75 percent of country to study the infrastructural needs on the instructions of AICC chairperson Sonia Gandhi, PM Dr Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi. The better roads will enable the farmers to sell their farm produce swiftly in the towns and cities for a better price. The union government has sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore for infrastructural developments of Karnataka”, said minister Oscar.
