Gundlupete: A five-year-old leopard that strayed from Onkar reserve range of Bandipur national reserve and posed a threat to people living in Naganapura village in Nanjanagod taluk was at last rescued.


The leopard was found wondering in the village since a few days, already preyed on 2 pet dogs and 2 goats of peasant Nagamallappa in the village. The villagers noticed footprints of wild animals in the vicinity and informed Omkar range forest officer Satish in this regard.
The foresters who arrived at the location with cages confirmed the footprints were of a leopard. They laid the cage near the house of Nagamallappa, along with a prey of dog, and waited, but it did not turn up. Meanwhile, the foresters shifted the cage along with a dog besides Mahadeshwar temple and were successful in trapping the leopard that tried to hound on the prey dog.
The trapped leopard was released in the reserve forest at Kalkere for the relief of terrified villagers.
