Mysuru: The water supply to Mysuru city will be affected due to stoppage of water from main water pumping stations, Belagola, Melapura and Hongalli by the agitators here on Tuesday.
Mayor BL Bhyrappa, said, “The farmers across the state are upset against Supreme Court’s order directing Karnataka government to release 15,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu. The farmers are thinking that the people in cities especially in Mysuru and Bengaluru are not much concerned about Cauvery related issues hence they laid siege to all the three pumping stations and disconnected the power resulting in stoppage of water to Mysuru from these stations.
Since 11 in the morning, water supply to Mysuru had been stopped. If things continue, people in Mysuru need to face water scarcity. Hundreds of farmers barged into all the three pumping stations, police had a tough time controlling the mob. Soon after entering the pumping stations the upset farmers disconnected the power supply which cut water supply. Hence on Wednesday, people of Mysuru will definitely face water problem. Every day from these three pumping stations, city gets 160 to 170 MLD of water.”
Trying to restore service with the help of police security
“If things continue to be the same on Wednesday, with no other alternative, with the help of police security we will try to restore water service to Mysuru. Police have made elaborate security arrangements at these stations. To know regular update we are also keeping tab with our officials,” added BL Bhyrappa.
We are with farmers
“Some of the farmers allege that we are not much bothered about Cauvery related issues. No, it’s absolutely wrong; we are always with the farmers. They are backbone of this country” added Bhyrappa.
