Bengaluru/Chennai: At a time when Karnataka is boiling with protests over Supreme Court verdict to release Cauvery water to Tamilnadu, senior politician Karunanidhi from the other side has added more salt to the wound by demanding more water.
DMK leader Karunanidhi reacting to Supreme Court order said that 15,000 cusecs of water is too less for TN. He demanded Tamilnadu government to ask more water to be released. “As per the Supreme Court order, Tamilnadu will be released 13tmc of water but the state needs 200tmc of water in reality. Hence, the state government must appeal to Supreme Court seeking more water,” DMK leader said.
Farmers and several pro-Kannada associations who have taken to streets blocking highways and shutting down theatres running Tamil movies are further enraged with Karunanidhi’s remarks.
Karnataka has been asked to release 14 tmc of Cauvery water for next 10 days in the crisis situation. If Cauvery water is released as per the Supreme Court’s direction, there will be no drinking water for the people of Bengaluru.
