Mysore :The Union Government should establish Adivasi Protection Commission to survey the number of Adivasis in each State, protect them and bring them back to the main stream of society, said District in-Charge Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad.
Speaking after inaugurating the Kala Mela and Convention of Adivasis at Dasara Exhibition Grounds here yesterday, Prasad said that there were 50 groups of tribals in the State who were not able to enjoy the constitutional rights. He regretted that a few non-tribals had got into the list of tribal groups. He added that Adivasis were the indigenous people of the world, born and brought up in forests, who deserve better benefits.
Speaking on the occasion, Co-operation Minister H.S. Mahadevaprasad said that the money released by the Government for the welfare of the Adivasis should reach the right beneficiaries.
Two Commemorative Souvenirs Garjane and Adivasi Usiru — were released on the occasion.
Akhila Bharath Adivasi Vikas Parishat President Somjibhai Damodar presided. ZP President Dr. Pushpavati Amarnath, Karnataka Janapada Academy Chairman Srinivas, LAMPS President M. Krishnaiah and others were present.
