DFRL working to provide food for space travellers

Mysuru: “Regarding our work on space food, a preliminary meeting has been done with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said Anil D Semwal, who is expected take charge as the Director of Defence Food Research Laboratory on Wednesday, October 3.

“Our major mandate is to provide food for our defence personnel. The food which we are providing them is having a life span of one year now and we have a request from the defence forces regarding increasing the lifespan of food for more than year. We are capable of doing it and already we have begun the process,” added Semwal whose name has been officially announced in the DRDO website as the Director of DFRL, Mysuru.

He also mentioned that DFRL was also working on space food. “Already we have held initial talks with ISRO with regarding food that needs to be given for space travellers. In days to come, our staff will have further meetings with ISRO regarding packaging and what types of food can be sent to space. It may be recalled that when Rakesh Sharma had been to space we had provided food for him”, added Semwal.
