K.R.Pete : All religious practices  and beliefs cannot be considered as superstitious. One can find peace and solace only through religious practices and  devotion to God, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

He was speaking after participating in the Sri Mala Mahadeshwara Mahotsava and Kumbha Mela at the Triveni Sangama near Ambigarahalli in the taluk. The Chief Minister said the state government intended to set up a Mahadeshwara Development Authority in order to develop various holy places in the state where  Sri male Mahadeshwara had set foot.

Stating that caste system was detrimental to the growth of the nation, the Chief Minister strongly advocated an end to caste system. Kumbha Melas help in cleansing the body as well as the souls. Good thoughts bring us peace. As there is no other place in the nation where there is a confluence of three rivers, the government is committed to develop this kshetra,  the CM said.

Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt, who spoke on the occasion said Hindu Dharma was the supreme dharma in the world. Dharma helps people to lead a life of harmony, he further added.

State Housing Minister Ambarish presided over the function which was attended by  state Minister HS Mahadevaprasad and several religious heads.

Over 25,000 to 30,000 devotees participated in the Mahakumbhamela and had a holy dip in the Sangama.
