Mysore : Several writers along with various organisations formed a human chain at the K.R. Circle here and staged a protest  on Thursday May 8 to condemn the Supreme Court ruling  stating that Kannada need not mandatorily be the medium of instruction in primary education.

Several activists of Karnataka Rajya  Raitha Sangha Okkoota, Karnataka Kavalu Pade, SDPI and  other organisations participated in the protest and expressed their anguish over the SC ruling. They also felt that  the court ruling may make Kannada lose its relevance.

Addressing the protestors,  noted writer Aravinda Malagatti said the  Supreme Court judgment will not only be affecting Kannada but all other regional languages. He urged the Chief Minister to convene a meeting with his counterparts in other states to discuss the issue.

Theatre personality Mallesh, Raitha Sangha General Secretary Badagalapura Nagendra, Kannada activist Muguru Nanjundaswami and others participated in the protest.
