Incessant rains cause extensive damage in Bantwal

Bantwal : There has been no respite from the incessant downpour that has been lashing various parts of the taluk since Wednesday May 7.

Five persons were injured due to lightning strike in the taluk. Ravi of Kamaje, Rama Devadiga of Bantwal, Satish of Brahmarakootlu, Pauline Gonsalves of Sarapady and a woman of Kavalamudur were the injured.

The house of Pauline was also damaged after a tree fell over it. Pauline  has been admitted to Wenlock Hospital.  All furniture and electrical appliances in the house are also damaged.

As many as 70 areca trees belonging to Arun Bhat of Panjady in Kavalamudur village got uprooted due to strong winds. His mother too sustained injuries after a roof tile fell over her. The cement  sheet roofing of the residence of Sunder of Keddalike  too was  destroyed due to heavy rains and strong winds.

The houses of Sulaiman, Shivappa Naik and Vaman Naik in Punacha village were   partially destroyed in lightning strike.

Several houses in other places of the taluk too have been damaged due to incessant rains.
